Happy New Year… In Goa

HAPPY NEW YEAR IN GOA
I have just had the most fantastic, inspirational two weeks in Ashvem, Goa. This is my third trip to India, having been to Goa and Kerala before. We stayed at Yab Yum which is an Eco-resort on Ashvem beach. We were greeted on arrival with cold drinks and a beautiful welcome pack of locally produced organic soap. The staff led us through the palm trees to our hut, a  coconut inspired by the 1970’s TV show ‘Space 1999’. The rooms are beautiful, incense is put daily in the room and flower garlands on the door. We were so close to the sea that we could hear the waves lapping on the beach. Lemurs, monkeys and eagles all shared our living quarters and I shared my shower with a frog most mornings!

We spent many days driving around the back roads and stumbled across Gunpowder in Assagao village, an old Portuguese colonial house which has a beautiful lifestyle shop with lots of local artists work. I picked up this Babu Marx print by an artist based in Dehli. We stopped for dinner and ate delicious Keralan food served by the most chilled and attentive Nepalese waiter.

I met with the designer activist Ondi from Om Khadi, an American based in Goa. She collaborates directly with traditional textile makers to create beautiful handcrafted fabrics.
